Digital Media Academy Enables Global Remote Learning with Google
Rise Digital rearchitected Digital Media Academy's Google Workspace for Education environment to enhance the productivity of students, educators and corporate employees, strengthen data security, and enable more impactful online learning experiences.
About Digital Media Academy, Inc.
Founded in 1999 on the Stanford University campus, Digital Media Academy has since delivered in-person and online applied technology education to over 500,000 students, 1100 schools and 125 countries.
Today, Digital Media Academy offers career-oriented technology camps and education programs to school-age and adult learners around the globe.
The challenge
As an early adopter of Google Workspace for Education, Digital Media Academy ran its business on Gmail and Drive. Unaware of how Google Workspace for Education could support its growth, their systems stack expanded, and in time, became complex and unmanageable. When COVID-19 hit, Digital Media Academy had to find ways to deliver more flexible, scalable and streamlined remote learning experiences.
The solution
Digital Media Academy initiated a transition from its legacy custom-built learning management system to Google Classroom for greater classroom management and student engagement functionality. In the process, they reviewed all internal systems, replacing Slack with Google Chat, adopting Google Calendar for scheduling and Google Meet for all internal meetings and online teaching and learning.
The results
Digital Media Academy realized significant cost savings by switching to Google Workspace for Education Plus's integrated tools. They reduced IT hours by 50%, and are now integrating their student registration and learning management systems via the Google Classroom API so they can focus their resources on delivering more impactful learning experiences.
